Hey, Jammer's! CoolCat here with another post! Before I continue I want to apologize for not posting last week, I just completely forgot!
This week instead of posting about todays Rare Item Monday, I will be posting five facts about Martin Luther King Jr. Day! If you don't know who he his, here is a little bit about him.
Martin Luther King Jr. was an American Baptist minister who became the most visible spokesperson and leader in the civil rights movement.
Lets start with fact number one!
#1 Martin Luther King was not his given name.
He was born Michael King Jr. named after his father Michael King.
#2 From 1957 to 1968, he traveled over six million miles and spoke over 2,500 times.
During these 11 years, he also wrote five books and published several articles.
#3 He was arrested 29 times and assaulted four times.
He was seen as a threat to American security by police officials. After his "I Have A Dream" speech, the FBI intensified their investigation into King and the Southern Christian Leadership Conference.
#4 There are approximately 900 streets named after MLK in the US.
After his assassination in 1968, cities across the nation began naming and renaming streets in his honor.
#5 His mother was also murdered by a gunman.
On June 30, 1974, Alberta Williams King was shot by a gunman who claimed that Christians were his enemy and that he received "divine instructions" to kill Kings father; however because Alberta was closer to the assailant, he opted to shoot her instead.
I hope you enjoyed these facts and learned something you didn't know before!
Here is todays verse.
"Jesus said, "If you hold to my teaching, you are really my disciples. Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free." -John 8:31-32
As always, bye Jammer's! And ~Jam On!~
